Meet XML Compare’s New Smart Comparison Report

August 2024 – We’re excited to announce the latest release of XML Compare, now with a new feature that generates detailed reports, providing analysis and customised recommendations to improve your comparison results.

This feature is designed to help users, especially those evaluating our software or setting up configurations for the first time, to better understand and refine their XML comparison results.

Benefits of using the comparison report

  • Gain insight into the number and type of changes between your files.
  • Identify configuration improvements and receive customised recommendations for optimising your XML comparisons.
  • Quickly access documentation and support to save time on troubleshooting and fine-tuning your setup.

Overview of the Comparison Report

The Comparison Report is automatically generated after running a comparison using our Document Comparator. This report provides in-depth statistics and insights into the inputs and the changes identified between them. Whether you’re comparing documents, data files, or other XML structures, the report will help you quickly identify the extent of changes, the types of changes (like text or attribute modifications), and the specific areas where further configuration could improve accuracy.

Key Features of the Comparison Report

  1. Result Analysis: The report offers detailed statistics on the comparison, including the percentage change between the documents, the total number of changes, and a breakdown of text, attribute, and element changes. This gives you a clear overview of what has been altered and how significant those changes are.

  1. Input Statistics: The report also analyses the inputs, classifying them by type between either “Document” or “Data” based on their structure and content. This analysis helps you understand how your files are being interpreted and whether adjustments are needed for optimal comparison results.

  2. Customisation Suggestions: One of the most valuable aspects of the report is its suggestions for improving your comparison results. If the report identifies a high percentage of element additions or deletions, it may recommend features like unordered comparison or the element moves feature. These suggestions are linked directly to our documentation, allowing you to quickly implement changes and see how they impact your results.
  1. Support and Documentation Links: For evaluators, the report serves as a guide, pointing you to the relevant documentation that can help you fine-tune your comparison setup. It also provides direct links to our support portal if you need further assistance.

Tailoring the Report to Your Needs

This new feature is particularly beneficial for those new to XML Compare or anyone configuring complex comparison scenarios. By using the insights provided in the report, you can:

  • Identify the specific changes between XML files and understand their impact.
  • Explore suggested configurations to improve accuracy and relevance.
  • Easily access relevant documentation to guide your next steps.

Whether you’re managing large document repositories, integrating XML comparisons into your workflows, or just looking for a more efficient way to track changes, the Comparison Report is a great help.

How to Get Started

The Comparison Report feature is enabled by default for all evaluators using an evaluation license of XML Compare. For those with a purchased license, you can easily enable this feature in your settings. Simply run a comparison, review the report, and start experimenting with the suggested configurations to see how they enhance your document management processes.
